And Now a Word from Our Founder (you’re in this story!)
Sunday Aug 06, 2023
Sunday Aug 06, 2023
I recently announced the closing of the She Built This Facebook group which will be officially closing on August 11th, 2023.
After a little feeling of the ol' feelings... I wanted to share a little story about how much She Built This has meant to me and why I made the decision I did, and how we're evolving together.
I wasn't able to fully iterate a lot of feelings and emotions in my announcement video, and I created this mini-weekend episode as a little love note from my heart to yours.
With endless gratitude, thank you for being here and please keep spreading the sparks of community and making the impact that you're meant to make in this world as we move into this next season together.

Is $100K All it’s Cracked Up to Be? Setting realistic money goals, with Sarah Young
Wednesday Jun 28, 2023
Wednesday Jun 28, 2023
Do you know your numbers enough to know how much money you need to pay yourself to keep the lights on and vehicles registered?
Do you know how much your business needs to cover its expenses?
Do you even know what your business expenses are?
We don’t always take time to pause and ask ourselves these questions or dive into the numbers enough to know what's really going on under the hood in our businesses.
Furthermore, the online space perpetuates a whole lot of loose advice and notions that we THINK we should be going along with, rather than sharing the behind-the-scenes of:
- What it really looks like to achieve / attain a goal
- What's involved in maintaining a certain level of income
For this week's episode on whether or not $100K is the ticket to sunshine, unicorns, and rainbows, I brought in Sarah Young, host of the Profit + Prosper Podcast and Founder of Young + Co., a virtual CFO agency. Sarah’s life work is to help business owners find financial peace and generate freedom and wealth.
In this conversation, Sarah Young and I get into:
- How to determine how much to pay yourself from your business
- The reasons businesses aren't as profitable as they could be
- Some money mindset issues she sees her clients struggle with
- Why $100K might not be all it's cracked up to be
- Questions to start asking yourself when looking to scale and grow
- And more!

How to Use Metrics to Inform Strategy with Alesia Galati
Wednesday Jun 14, 2023
Wednesday Jun 14, 2023
Today’s podcast guest changed my life.
In addition to being my friend and changing my life that way, Alesia also changed it by showing me how to use metrics to inform strategy when it came to my podcast.
I hired Alesia Galati of Galati Media to do a podcast audit of the She Built This podcast back in early March 2023. We sat down and went through all the numbers, and Alesia dug in and asked me about my goals for the show.
It was in learning more about podcast performance metrics and having Alesia make sense of them for me that I was able to use the metrics to inform my strategy moving forward.
In this episode, Alesia and I get into the importance of tying things that you measure in your business (metrics you track) to your goals, and how doing so can help you make clear decisions and inform your strategy.
In this episode on how to use metrics to inform strategy, Alesia Galati and I cover:
- Why metrics are important in your business
- The metrics that Alesia tracks in her business and why
- The metrics/numbers Alesia doesn't waste her time tracking
- Specifically for podcasters, how to evaluate the goals you. have for your show and use your numbers to inform your strategy
- When we might need outside help in knowing our numbers
- And more!
About Alesia Galati of Galati Media:
Alesia Galati is the owner of Galati Media and has been listening to podcasts since 2015. As you can imagine, with all that time put in, she knows what goes into creating a standout podcast that captures your audience’s attention even before they press “play”.
Alesia’s helped coaches and thought leaders launch and maintain over 50 podcasts and has developed a signature, thorough system for launching and managing podcasts so you don’t have to stress about anything falling through the cracks!
Alesia lives in sunny North Carolina with her two kiddos and husband. When not helping her clients, Alesia can be found reading over 200 books a year, hiking, and exploring the zoo with her boys.
Favorite podcast: Alesia’s ears have been fine-tuned for high-quality audio and she can only tolerate impeccable podcasts.
She enjoys listening to heavily produced storytelling podcasts like “Greeking Out” by National Geographics Kids when she takes long road trips with her kids.

How to Clearly Express Your Thoughts: Three Ways to Apply the Power of Three
Wednesday May 31, 2023
Wednesday May 31, 2023
Today's episode is a result of my own curiosity to become a better speaker, presenter, and podcaster! I always want to learn as much as I can about how to clearly express my thoughts and ideas to others.
My desire is to speak in a clear and effective way so that I share information and exchange ideas with my listeners and participants.
The idea was sparked after reading an article written by Alan Alda on BigThink.com called "3 Rules to Express Your Thoughts so That Everyone Will Understand You" and it uses the power of three in three different ways for you to start applying in your own communication efforts.
If you want to learn for yourself how to clearly express your thoughts, this framework using the power of threes is a great place to start!
In this episode:
- The three guideposts for clearly expressing your thoughts
- News about my new podcast Content with Character
- What's changing (and what's staying the same) on the She Built This podcast

Content Creation & Artificial Intelligence; two copywriters talk AI with Erin Ollila
Wednesday May 17, 2023
Wednesday May 17, 2023
Content creation & artificial intelligence seem to go hand-in-hand for many entrepreneurs and small business owners as of late.
I spend a lot of time observing the many uses and applications of ai-generated content creation, listening to podcasts, and reading articles on how people are using it as a tool to ideate, improve writing, and more.
I still have some questions and a few concerns.
My curiosity this month is around the benefits, limitations, and cautions when it comes to content creation using artificial intelligence and I brought in fellow copywriter, Erin Ollila to talk about it with me!
Erin is an SEO copywriter who knows her stuff as it relates to using ai content creation tools like Chat GPT to generate ideas, save time, improve accuracy, and even use as a springboard for conversations with our clients.
In our conversation about Content Creation & Artificial Intelligence, Erin Ollila and I cover:
- What’s been changing in the world of SEO and how AI impacts the internet/search landscape as a whole
- Whether or not AI will null and void the need for SEO
- How we’re seeing people use artificial intelligence for content creation
- Limitations and concerns as it relates to content creation & artificial intelligence
- A question to come back to no matter what content you’re creating
- Ethical factors to consider in using AI for content creation
- And more!
About my Guest, SEO Copywriter and Copywriting Coach Erin Ollila
Conversion copywriter. Copy Coach. Wing Woman. Word slinger. No matter what you call her, Erin Ollila believes in the power of words and how a message can inform—and even transform—its intended audience.
When she’s not working with big brands and small businesses to marry strategy, storytelling, and SEO, you can find her hosting the Talk Copy to Me podcast or exploring southeastern MA with her family and friends. Erin graduated from Fairfield University with an M.F.A. in Creative Writing and then co-founded Spry Literary Journal, which celebrates undiscovered and established writers' concise, experimental, hybrid, modern, vintage or just-plain-vulnerable writing.

I Feel Like I’m Repeating Myself! Why Repetition is Effective
Wednesday May 10, 2023
Wednesday May 10, 2023
You might want to buckle up your seatbelt for today’s episode and turn your podcast player off 1.5x speed if it’s set there because I’m fired up and full steam ahead in this one! I’ll be sharing some little secrets I’ve been keeping which were a result of some of the things I learned by repeating myself.
In this She Built This episode, I share why repetition is effective for your message and your business as I give you five lessons learned from my most loquacious (and most repetitive) month ever.
Do you ever get tired of talking about the same thing over and over again in your business? Do you feel like you’re repeating yourself?
In the month of April 2023, I repeated myself more than ever in my messaging as I approached the same topic from different angles. It helped me understand deeply why repetition is effective both for us the creators and those receiving the work on the other side.
For me, all that repeating ended up being my most prolific and loquacious month ever and the ideas just kept on coming! Repetition led to my next BIG idea which I’m sharing and announcing for the first time in this episode.
5 Reasons Why Repetition is Effective:
- People may not have seen it the first time and need multiple touchpoints
- There’s a lot of power in going deeper vs. wider on a topic
- Consistency/repetition is one of the most powerful tools you have to keep your message clear
- It helps you improve just about ANY skill or craft!
- It helps you hone in on what you really think, feel and believe!

How Personality Types Affect Communication, with Enneagram Coach Christina Granahan
Wednesday May 03, 2023
Wednesday May 03, 2023
Have you ever wondered how personality types affect communication?
In this She Built This episode about the Enneagram in relationships, my guest Christina Granahan and I dive into the communication styles of each Enneagram type and talk about how our personality types impact our communication with others.
We discuss how learning about how communication styles differ from personality type to personality type, we can become more empathetic and understanding. We also cover how, for each of us, our greatest gifts and assets can also be our greatest liabilities in our personality types.
In this conversation about how personality types affect communication, we cover:
- The body, mind, and heart triads of the Enneagram and what each are seeking as they move about the world
- How we might respond when we feel unseen, unheard, or misunderstood
- Where Christina sees people bumping up against their own personalities
- How each of the Enneagram personality types affect communication
- What role shame plays in our communication
- And More!
Connect with Christina Granahan:
Christina has been curious about people her entire life. In elementary school, she told her teacher she wanted to be a social worker so it was a surprise to no one when she graduated with her MSW at 22.
She has spent much of her career working with teens and adults living at the intersection of one or more marginalized identities including LGBTQ, BIPOC, people with AIDS, people with substance use disorder, and those who are undocumented, living in the US.
About 15 years ago she expanded her work to include coaching and consulting with staff groups, supervisors, and directors around clinical issues, leadership development, and team building.
Since then, Christina’s deeply focused in on the Enneagram in hopes of getting clarity on some important relationships in her life. Through the learning, she discovered that she was the problem. More accurately, she was a problem and the only one she could change.
Since that first course, Christina has been immersed in the Russ-Hudson tradition, attending the Enneagram Institute, participating in a 15-month course on the Enneagram and conscious living, and is currently completing a certification course in teaching the Enneagram to beginners as well as advanced learners.
Christina is an expert in personality development, developmental trauma, and the Enneagram and is committed to helping others live more consciously, make more informed decisions in their lives, and tell the truth.
