Networking the Way to Your Dreams with Julie Brown of the This Works Podcast
Wednesday Jan 12, 2022
Wednesday Jan 12, 2022
You're probably familiar with the phrase, "It's not what you know, it's who you know." My guest today, Julie Brown, shares just how true this common idiom really is!
85% of companies know that building relationships affects their bottom line and the success and profitability of their company, but only 26% have an actual strategy for building and maintaining relationships.
We're not taught relationship-building and networking in school (at least, not on purpose). Julie Brown fell into the art and science of networking and training others to do it better, by realizing how important it was for the companies she was working for.
The more she grew relationships and learned about others, the more consistently she got new opportunities and bigger projects.
Tune in and hear:
- Julie's backstory and how she got to where she is today
- Why networking and building relationships are so important
- What the myths and misconceptions are around networking
- How you actually go about building relationships and tangibly growing your network
- What she sees as inauthentic in the world of networking and where people most often go wrong
- How introverts and extroverts can use their natural tendencies as a superpower when networking
- How to ask dopamine-inducing questions rather than killing the mood
- And MORE!
You will walk away from this one wanting to hear more! So be sure to connect with Julie on her:

Think Again: A Conversation on Inclusion, with Davey Shlasko
Wednesday Dec 22, 2021
Wednesday Dec 22, 2021
Join me in my conversation with Davey Shlasko, as we approach the topic of inclusion from a different lens.
Inclusion has been something that I, personally, have been looking and reflecting on where I need to do work within myself, and how I can take more action as an advocate for others. As Davey shares in this podcast, it starts there. It starts with each of us taking a personal inventory and seeing where we need to step it up to make an impact.
We discuss:
- How Davey got started in this work
- How the normal, default isn't good enough and how we need to do more than simply avoid having a negative impact or stay neutral.
- How we can make the biggest impact possible, and create a ripple effect, on a daily basis
- What the definitions are for terms we may hear and not understand fully, such as: classism, ableism, and cissexism (transgender oppression) and how these show up in the world.
-
How we can create more inclusion with our businesses
