"Fight the Writer". A Conversation with Sy Montgomery
Wednesday Sep 01, 2021
Wednesday Sep 01, 2021
To research her books, films, and articles, Sy Montgomery has been chased by a silverback gorilla, embraced by a Giant Pacific Octopus and undressed by an orangutan. She's perhaps best known for her 14-year love affair with Christopher Hogwood, a runt piglet, who grew to a 750-pound great Buddha master.
She's been deftly undressed by an orangutan in Borneo, hunted by a tiger in India, and swum with piranhas, electric eels, and dolphins in the Amazon.
Sy has searched the Altai Mountains of Mongolia’s Gobi for snow leopards, hiked into the trackless cloud forest of Papua New Guinea to radio-collar tree kangaroos, and learned to SCUBA dive in order to commune with octopuses.
In this interview, we talk about:
- Sy's childhood and how that played a role in her decision to write books, especially the genre of books she does
- How she KNEW she wanted to be a writer
- How learning about the animal world has made her a better human being
- What her daily process is as an author
- What she wishes she could change about the publishing industry
- Her advice for aspiring writers
- How writing is part of her spiritual life
- How writing has affected her confidence
- And more!

Wednesday Aug 25, 2021
Wednesday Aug 25, 2021
Touching base this week, with a little heart-to-heart from me, your hostess!
I believe that managing our time comes from making it our friend first and keeping commitments to ourselves when it comes to what we spend our time doing.
In this week's episode, I'm sharing some of the strategies I've learned this past year in my efforts to:
- Turn down the volume on some of the stress and overwhelm in my life
- Maintain organization and productivity
- Put systems in place that work WITH my natural tendencies and strengths rather than against them
This is a compilation of the lessons learned over the past two years in running three businesses, managing two Facebook groups, social media for multiple clients, freelance projects, event planning, the podcast, a personal life, and more.
I share tips you can try out for yourself and experiment with around:
- Time auditing
- Time-blocking
- Reducing the number of emails you have
- Keeping and maintaining streaks
- Motivation and passion in getting started
- Overwhelm
- Accountability buddies
- And more!

- Collaborations - what can come from teaming up with others and surrounding ourselves with the right people?
- How we, as human beings, can look to nature as a reference for how to live better and ensure a harmonious relationship with the planet
- What Ivor sees as going well in terms of Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) work, and where he sees opportunities for improvement
